"iPhone 16 Pro Review: Incremental Upgrades, Maximum Performance"
The Apple iPhone 16 Pro follows the
same year-after-year incremental updating, but there are several tweaks and
improvements to keep it among the top flagship smartphones. This is exclusively
powered by the latest A18 chip which provides impressive performance, better
processing speed and will be more efficient. All your everyday tasks like app
switching, browsing and gaming seem much smoother than before models. This is
all the more reinforced by the 6.3-inch OLED display, beautiful and buttery
smooth with its crisp colors and 120Hz Pro Motion refresh rate that turns
everything from video playback to scrolling into a fluid experience.
One of the biggest highlights is
that it will go along with a 48MP main camera. It excels at low light, for
example, with lots of fine detail and a minimum of noise in shots. That new
software boosts computational photography that helps with color accuracy and
depth, although the improvements will likely be relatively small for iPhone 15
Pro camera system upgrades. And while it's a terrific choice for photography
professionals, everyday users are going to be hard-pressed to notice the
differences in day-to-day shots. The iPhone 16 Pro is an example of this with
advanced video capabilities, including higher resolution recording and ProRes
support which should be welcomed by content creators.
Battery life is good to be 1 day
with typical use — this entails browsing, messaging, streaming and some gaming.
Now using USB-C to charge, it offers more choice and can be relied on for
charging or data. Even if the battery life is pretty much in line with the
average experience, to its credit, it has fast charging.
The iPhone 16 Pro retains the
stainless steel frame and frosted matte glass rear that make it feel high-end.
It is a little lighter than the model it replaces, however, making it easier to
handle. The IP68 water and dust resistance carries over providing added
protection in everyday settings.
On the software side, there are new
features and changes in iOS 18 that make widgets more functional and provide
better tools for multitasking — but these fall short of being game-changing.
Coupled with super-fast Face ID and 5G for fast downloads in streaming on the go,
you'll get a solid performance from all fronts.
The iPhone 16 Pro is an extremely
capable smartphone, but more of the same over last year. Particularly for those
with older models or desperate for a significant camera upgrade, they will no
doubt welcome the changes whereas it may seem too incremental an upgrade to
justify the exorbitant price factors.
